New to Social Media? This is what you should be doing with it

Hey new social media users. Start implementing these social media marketing tips as you get your feet wet in the online marketing space.

#1 Have a plan for your social media channel

Many companies find it overwhelming to create content for their social media channels.

Worse, some companies make one type of content and then send it out across their social media platforms.

Regardless of knowing if the content fits that particular channel’s parameters or audience. You need to create a plan for your social media channel(s).

Your plan should include the following:

  •  Choosing a channel (i.e., Facebook, LinkedIn),
  • A goal (i.e. sales goal, lead generation)
  •  Who you’re targeting
  • The structure or type of content you want to create (i.e. videos, polls)
  • Your tone (i.e. funny, expert, casual)
  • The desired action (what behavior do you want from the user, i.e, downloading your free ebook)
  • Your channel integration.

#2 Consistently deliver content

One of the quickest ways to grow the number of followers you have is to be consistent.

Create a system or hire someone to implement a content strategy and schedule to ensure your company keeps publishing relevant posts that are valuable and interesting to your audience.

And don’t overwhelm your followers by providing the same types of posts repeatedly.

Instead, make an effort to manage your content categories to avoid repeating posts.

If you don’t, your audience will get bored and stop paying attention.

#3 Strategically implement hashtags

One way to help increase your social media success is to avoid random hashtags.

Use a strong hashtag that will tie your campaign or content pieces together.

Create a custom hashtag that’s both easy to remember and easy to spell. Make sure it’s not already being used by someone else.

Once you have your hashtag created or find one relevant, follow the conversations around it and then join them.

#4 Host a private online event

The success of social media is often linked to having an open dialogue with the right people.

You can do this in several ways.

One that works great is Facebook Groups.

A Facebook Group is a private (or public) online community that allows for deeper conversations.

Facebook Groups offer niche groups of people such as Lead Singers from Garage Bands or Body Painters in Manhattan to have an open dialogue about their passion, away from outsiders.

These online spaces can be significant revenue generators and trust builders within your given audience.

#5 Try Pinterest and see if it works for your brand

Pinterest is a popular social media channel, especially among women.

You do not necessarily have to have something visual to show to be successful with Pinterest.

Play with it, experiment, see if it can help brand your product. If you have no idea what Pinterest is, resources like Fiveer offer freelancers to build and manage your account for you.
